Tees Music Alliance would like to offer some clarity for our local music community regarding the Sonic Futures programme.

TMA has chosen not to participate in Sonic Futures.  However, we want musicians, audiences, and partners across the Tees Valley to feel confident that our commitment to supporting the region’s music ecosystem remains as strong as ever.

We were unable to reach a partnership agreement that felt fair or aligned with our values or with the specific needs of the Tees Valley’s grassroots music infrastructure. Because this has not been communicated publicly during the first two years of the programme, many people have understandably assumed that TMA is still involved.  We are not.

We want to remove any confusion so that musicians and organisations know exactly where to turn for support. What matters most to us is that the local music scene continues to grow, thrive, and feel supported.

Whether or not we are part of a particular initiative, TMA remains here for our community offering guidance, opportunities, space, and advocacy for musicians at every stage of their development.

Our ongoing work with PRS Foundation’s Talent Development Network, along with projects supported by Stockton Borough Council, Arts Council England, and Youth Music, continues to provide real, practical support for artists and music creators in the Tees Valley.

We know how important clarity and trust are in a small, interconnected scene. By being open about our position, we hope to reassure musicians and partners that TMA’s focus remains exactly where it has always been championing our home grown talent and strengthening the cultural life of the Tees Valley.
